Tips on Hiring a Video Production Company

June 14, 2013

Companies or organizations no longer need to have large television ad budgets to take advantage of the power of video. Still, you want a final product that represents your brand and your cause. That is when you probably should consider hiring a professional production company to handle the job.

Hiring a company, especially when you do not have expertise in an area, can be intimidating. In our continuing series, ASV Productions is posting tips to help guide you through the process.

Tip #4

Prepare a vision statement. When creative developers present an idea to production companies for a new movie or television show, they come up with ways to describe what they want in as few descriptive words as possible, so they use existing examples of shows or movies to describe their idea. What is your vision for the most effective video for your message? Do you see passionate people from your company talking about what they do or customers giving glowing recommendations or both? Or do you see animated graphics set to fast-paced music to communicate the features and benefits of your product or service? Do a little research. Look for how other organizations are using video. Think about what you like and what videos you've seen that get your attention. Be prepared to talk to your chosen production companies about examples of visual communications pieces that you find effective and that you'd like to emulate for your company. A good production company can take it from there and talk with you about how to make the style you like work best for your organization.

Tip #3

Work With People You Like.  We all know it's about more than expertise when it comes to choosing a service provider. We all want to spend our days teaming up with people we respect, who inspire us, who challenge us to be our best, and with whom we simply have a great time creating outstanding end product. Award-winning production is about the synchronicity of creative minds and positive collaboration. Meet with potential production company associates. Ask them to provide case studies and talk with them about how particular samples of their work unfolded. Listen for cues about how efficiently and effectively team partners worked with one another. A great finished product is only half the benefit of working with a great production company. The journey to excellence includes enjoying the ride.

Tip #2

Be practical about what you need and what you can afford. Good production is about capturing good moments and putting them together to communicate your brand story clearly, succinctly, and effectively. Talk to several different video production companies about your vision and see if what you're conceiving is affordable enough to allow you to move forward with the other, complimentary communication tools you're using. If all of the estimates are out of range, re-group and pick a favorite company or two to talk with about what you can do with your money. The right video fits into a comprehensive marketing and advertising strategy and should work with the other ways you are reaching your audience.

Tips on Hiring a Video Production Company – Week 1

May 15, 2013

It takes more than a camera to make a great video... and a great video cuts through clutter, connects with consumers, and communicates your brand.

Video has become a central part of every marketing and outreach campaign.

Over the coming weeks, ASV Productions will post a series of tips to help guide you through the process.

Tip #1

Determine what you want to accomplish and who your audience is. Are you looking to build awareness? Do you want people to donate to your cause? Do you want people to try a new product or service? Are you looking to reach people online or broadcast? Who is it you will be trying to reach? The answers to these questions can help decide the type of video production... and company, you need. Are the video production companies you're considering experienced in the type of visual messaging you'd like to do? Have they demonstrated the ability to accomplish marketing objectives for similar organizations in their previous work? Making sure a company has handled a similar objective successfully is the first step in making a good choice. Any good video production company will have an available portfolio of samples online for you to view.
